UNITING THROUGH OUR WRITING | THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC PROJECT
Well, it looks like riding out this pandemic will be a long-game. Initially, there was hope about what “new normal” would look like. For fast moving frenetic folk, there was still the reprieve of long walks and jogs, and small social gatherings. There were fantasies of family barbecues under soft summer skies. Family functions now seem to be a thing of the past. And today, we hear that even walks should be curtailed. Sadly, this advice makes sense. I was enjoying a walk and some sun on my face when I was body-checked by a wheezing mouth-breather who was playing chicken with another runner. (I’ll spare you my outrage.)
By necessity, we are slowly getting stripped of some of the outlets that bring us pleasure and sanity. In searching for ways to feel alive, connected, and creative and to combat feeling deadened, divided and dull, the Global Pandemic Project was born.

This forum has been created to bolster spirits, promote creativity and forge connections both locally and globally. The goal (albeit lofty) is to unite people from different cultures and circumstances through the sharing of their respective personal struggles, reflections and hopefully some triumphs. Writing is not the same as a hug or a close conversation over coffee (or wine) . It does, however, help us put form the feelings that buzz around inside us. Putting ideas into words can help us hold emotions, communicate these more effectively to others, and allows us to be seen during times of solitude.
Contributors can be writers, mental health professionals, and the general public. People can contribute anonymously if that is preferred. Contributions between 500-1500 words are welcome! We look forward to reading you.
